Chess residential is a great success

Twelve young people attended a five-day chess residential during the October half term, led by E Anglia youth worker, Kevin Moore. They came from across the country (plus one keen lad from France), and from church and non-church backgrounds.
 Checkmate 2011
Each morning a visual presentation linked a Bible character with a chess piece, and after each youth friendly Bibles were presented. On the Friday families were invited to attend a family event, with a meal and prize giving.

The final evening featured a light event in the dark, which finished around midnight. The young people enjoyed themselves & gained a lot from their Checkmate experience including sharpening their chess skills, making friendships and much greater Bible awareness. At the end, one lad commented ‘It’s nearly over, why can’t Checkmate run for two weeks?’

There will, however, be a new Checkmate for 10-16 year olds next year, which will be held during the half term holiday October 29th to November 2nd. Places are limited to 12 boys and 4 girls, with up to 8-10 team members. The fee for this holiday is £110, with everything included.
