Gap Year for Young Adults
FORM is a gap year for young adults (18-30), designed to help them discover what it means to be a Christian in the 21st century.
The FORM programme offers a ‘Year Out’ opportunity for people aged between 18-30. Form provides personal discipleship development through theological teaching, outreach and overseas mission, which is all grounded in biblical teaching carried out by experienced speakers.
The year, which is run in conjunction with St John’s church, Woodbridge, aims to develop character and skills through a variety of experiences and teaching. However, Mission and outreach are at the core and there is an opportunity to travel abroad, as well as to get involved in local events.
Two full days of training a week are provided, together with weekend retreats, various Christian events and a Mission Trip. Normally the student will have a part-time job for the remainder of the week. This is a key part to the training and enables the students to support themselves financially.
The cost of the course is £900 for the year which includes:
- 2 days per week during term times, consisting of theological and discipleship teaching and local mission/outreach
- 2 weekend retreats – a time to develop spiritually, relax and have fun
- Overseas Mission - funded through various Form fund-raising activities
- Plenty of ministry and ‘areas of service’ opportunities
- All course material and Form clothing
- Lunch and all refreshments on training days
FORM Team Leader, Tracey Fearn, says “If you’re interested in becoming a disciple of Jesus; if you want to see your life change through teaching, acts of service and mission, and if you’re up for a challenge, then you should be considering this gap year for God. It’s ideal for those finishing University, A Levels or if you’re between 18 and 30 years old.”
Kyle Buxton from Woodbridge, who took part in a previous course, said “Whenever anyone says to you that ‘a life of Christianity is a never-ending journey’, don’t you immediately think “that’s the corniest thing I’ve ever heard”? Corny or not though, it doesn’t make it any less true; and if Christianity is a journey, then consider FORM as an expedition phase of the journey! Rooted in God’s Word, FORM is not only a chance to study the bible in-depth, but to ‘serve and not just be served’. It will strengthen your relationship with the Lord no-end, and you will probably discover things about yourself that you never thought possible! Scared? Good! Now, go out there and do it – I did, and it was one of the best decisions I ever made!
