A Spiritual Health Check

From time to time we all undergo physical health checks or medical examinations. In the same way a spiritual health check is a good thing at least once a year. Alone with God or with your partner or friend, consider the following areas of your spiritual life over the last year and assess where you are now….
Adoctorreas to check:
1)     The mindBut we have the mind of Christ (1 Cornithians 2:16)
·        Fix your thoughts on Jesus (Hebrews 3:1) – Are my thoughts primarily God focussed or self focussed
·        Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind (Romans 12:2) – Am I conforming to the way of the world in my thinking

2)     AttitudeYour attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus           (Phil 2:5)
·        How is my attitude towards – God
My family (partner, children, parents, siblings)
      Work
     Church / Minsitry
     Others
·        How do I view myself – what is my attitude to me

3)     HeartAbove all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life            (Prov 4:23)
·        How do I ‘guard my heart’
·        Caleb followed the Lord His God wholeheartedly (Josh 14:8) – Am I wholehearted

4)     HandsWho may ascend the hill of the Lord? Who may stand in his holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart (Psalm 24:3-4)
·        My hands represent what I do – are they clean?
·        Am I doing my best, giving my utmost for – God
          My family
          Work
           Church / Ministry
           Others
Check List – Fruits of the Spirit
Looking back over the last year (or period since the last check up) have I grown in the following areas, remained stationary or moved backwards?

1)     LoveDear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth (1 John 3:18)
2)     JoyHe will fill your mouth with laughter and your lips with shouts of joy (Job 8:21)
3)     PeaceDo not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus (Phil 4:6-7)
4)     PatienceLove is patient (1 Cor 13:4)
5)     KindnessLove is kind (1 Cor 3:4)
6)     GoodnessLive as children of light, (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) and find out what pleases the Lord (Eph 5:9)
7)     FaithfulnessLet love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart (Prov 3:3)
8)     GentlenessTherefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience (Col 3:12)
9)     Self Control(For the grace of God) teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age (Titus 2:12)
Moving Forward – How are we doing in the following areas?
1)     PrayerDevote yourselves to prayer being watchful and thankful
·        Be faithful in prayer (Rom 12:12) How is my prayer life
·        Am I seeing answered prayer – do I expect to see answered prayer
·        Do I live in an attitude of thankfulness

2)     The WordHow can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to your word (Psalm 119:9)
·        Am I reading the Word daily and meditating on it
·        Am I listening for God’s spoken word – making space and silence to do that

3)     ForgivenessAnd when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven may forgive your sins (Mark 11:25)
·        Do I need to forgive
·        Have I really forgiven what I say I have forgiven
·        Are there areas for which I need to forgive myself

4)     Rest He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty (Psalm 91:1)
·        Are we ‘dwelling’ in Him? Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest (Matt 11:28)

"Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ" (Phil 1:27)
