Lord’s Prayer in 10 languages – CD Released
The finished CD has now been launched to real acclaim. This music resource containing 13 songs, 10 of which are versions of the Lord's Prayer, was presented at Diocesan Synod on Saturday Nov 6th and at the Church School Leaders' conference on Tuesday Nov 9th. Many of the children who recorded the CD returned to sing live to their own voices! The adults who listened were impressed, and moved, as the children sang, and also spoke of the versions they liked the best.
Preparing and recording the music has fallen to the ubiquitous and talented Andy and Wendy Rayner. The couple even managed to provide a Tanzanian student to sing the adult part in a brilliant rendition of the Swahili 'Baba Yetu' Lord's Prayer, familiar to the children from Lion King 2 and a firm favourite on recording day. The songs on the CD also include the Millennium Prayer and the Caribbean Lord's Prayer, with a brand new sung Lord's Prayer by the Rayners themselves.
Diocesan Schools' Adviser, Helen Matter, said “The CD costs just £15 and is a real bargain for such a vibrant set of songs. All Ipswich primary schools will get a CD free, and children who sang on the recording will be offered one at reduced cost. Profits from the actual sales will support education in Kagera, Tanzania. Courses based on the CD will take place in the spring all round the county and further afield.”
“Teachers and schools need to be aware of just how much other material the CD contains. When slipped into a computer, the contents list includes song words, music, the Lord's Prayer spoken in 18 languages, Religious Education lessons, 30 assemblies, details of Kagera, a reflective story, a set of interactive stations and photos of BSL to enable children to sign the prayer. This huge bank of resources will be really useful for both schools and churches.”
