The Lord's Prayer in 10 languages

More than 250 pupils, from across Ipswich, were at Rushmere Hall Primary School to sing 10 different versions of the prayer, one of which was specially written for this project and two of which are in African languages. Other pupils are preparing to record the Lord's Prayer in some of the many languages spoken in Ipswich. The songs and other support materials will be issued nationally on a CD in November as part of the Lord's Prayer Project.Massed Choir

"Teaching RE (Religious Education) to 7 to 11 years olds is never easy," says Helen Matter, Diocesan Schools' Adviser. "I hope that this CD will give teachers a way of making The Lord's Prayer exciting and accessible. The songs and accompanying lesson materials will help satisfy the requirements of the Locally Agreed Syllabuses for Religious Education. This project gives us an opportunity to show how central the Lord's Prayer is to many Christians around the world. This is especially important as our country becomes ever more multi-cultural."

The whole project has been financed by the local Elizabeth Walter's Charity. Its support means that all primary schools in Ipswich will receive a free copy. Profits from national sales will be sent to Kagera, Suffolk's link diocese in Tanzania to help support school education there.
