Amanda and Noah’s Story

New mum, Amanda, writes about the support she received from Ipswich based “Christian Childbirth Ministry” (WOW!) as she prepared for the birth of her son Noah.

IMG1988“I was about 3 months pregnant with my third child when the WOW! group started to meet.

People asked me ‘What do you want to go there for?’ ‘Surely you must know all there is to know about pregnancy the third time round’.....and I did! I knew exactly how it made me feel. Tired and fat, for starters.  I also knew how I felt inside, anxious, excited and hormonal.

In the past, in my other two pregnancies, I had never come across an opportunity to join anything similar so I was quite excited. Feeling very positive about this group I decided that it was for me and went along.

It turned out that joining this group enabled me to support and be supported by other pregnant ladies in the same position as myself, and all the "side effects" of being pregnant could (if wished) be discussed and shared; therefore I was not alone.

Not only was WOW! a good support group, but being Christian based it meant that I experienced more depth in pregnancy than I had previously. When I say more in depth, I mean that through my Christian faith and prayer I felt I bonded with my baby while he was in my womb. This was something I didn't do with my other children. With them I needed to make sure they were born safely and although it was only seconds, I didn't bond until I saw them, safe and well. This was about trusting God and praying for my unborn son meant I knew him much more when he was born.

Although it didn't make this child any more special than my other two, the whole experience of pregnancy, labour and birth was far more positive.

The fact that Sally, the group leader is a Christian and was a midwife for many years makes this a special opportunity that I wouldn’t want others to miss. I found this group was so important to me that I am now on the WOW! team.”
