Operation Noah in Suffolk
Operation Noah is a Christian organisation that provides focus and leadership in response to the growing threat of catastrophic climate change endangering all of God’s creation.
It was one of many faith groups at the Windsor Celebration in November 09, run by the Alliance of Religions and Conservation (ARC) and hosted by Prince Philip and the UN Secretary General.
Local organiser, Neil Winship writes “The Copenhagen Climate Change Summit may well have left a feeling of despondency but as Richard Cizik says in Mark Dowd’s ‘Verdict’, this is a real opportunity for the faith communities. We can act irrespective of the international polity!”
Formation of Operation Noah in Suffolk (ONiS)
Neil and Charles Croydon have recently formed Operation Noah in Suffolk (ONiS), as a group of Christians who welcome partnership with all people who share their vision.
Meetings
A 1st meeting of ONiS will be held on Sunday 21 February, 20.10 in the Gladwin Room, St Margaret’s Church Centre, Bolton Lane, Ipswich, south side of Christchurch Park starting at 7.30 pm. Mark Dowd is to give his reflections on Faith at The Summit and then future plans for ONiS will be discussed.
ONiS 2nd meeting is planned for Sunday 18 April 2010, when Ann Pettifor, co-founder of the international Jubilee 2000 campaign (‘Drop the Debt’) and ON’s campaign adviser will speak on the New Economics Foundation thinking that informs ON and might help us change our spending habits. There will be coffee etc. then group and general discussions as people wish.
Events
Neil Winship writes “Members of ONiS will need to meet one another face-to-face from time to time if we are to hope to establish meaningful and enjoyable personal relationships. Meetings seem unlikely to suffice nor do they have potential to raise funds both for ONiS and ON. Types of event that might serve us are: Walks; River and sea trips; Faith centre visits; Vegetarian cooking.”
Fundraising
ON was started with major grants but needs to build up a donor base if it is to continue indefinitely. ONiS could help here by organising various fundraising events.
INVITATION
Neil Winship again “If this initiative interests you and perhaps some of your family and friends, do please come along to ONiS 1st and/or 2nd meetings. It would be very encouraging if you could send me an e-mail or note saying you intend to come. If however, you cannot come do please send your comments, suggestions and say if you wish to continue to get e-mails about ONiS.”
