Plans revealed for Town-wide Mission
By Alan Fisher
A large number of Christians from many Ipswich churches attended a meeting at St John the Baptist church on 8 October, to hear about the Passion for Life Mission scheduled for March 2010.
Chairman of the organising committee, Rev. Andrew Docherty, said that the mission was part of a nationwide programme of events involving Stephen Gaukroger during 2010, and Cambridge and Bury St Edmunds also had projects planned. He said” This is a real opportunity for Ipswich Christians to share their faith. March 2010 will be a time when we can connect with people; connect with churches, and connect with Easter.”
Organisations supporting the project include CYM, IPEC and Heart for Ipswich.
Events
The main events in 2010, when Stephen Gaukroger will be speaking, are:
March 11th – Paella, Puddings and Jazz at St Johns Church
March 12th – Stowmarket Regal event, and Youth event at the St Nicholas Centre in Ipswich
March 13th – theatre presentation at the Corn Exchange with music drama etc.
March 14th – seeker friendly service at the Corn Exchange
Churches in the town are now getting together in cluster groups in order to pray for the mission and to organise their own local events. There will also be central prayer events and days of prayer leading up to the mission.
Stephen Gaukroger
Well known writer and Spring Harvest speaker, Stephen Gaukroger, said that after serving in various Baptist churches for 25 years he was now engaged on a wider ministry and travelling across many countries. He said “We need a renewed confidence in the gospel, in prayer, and in the scripture. Next March will be a great opportunity to introduce our friends and neighbours to Jesus”.
Referring to Romans 1v16, he said “The gospel is just as relevant to today’s world as ever. Which church we go to is not important – people are not looking for the label on the door, but for love in the heart of the Christians”.
