Teens contribute £300 million a year to society
Young People Matter: a report and survey of youth volunteering, was recently published on by the Evangelical Alliance . The report highlights the enormous contribution 14-18 years olds are making, with nearly half volunteering on a regular basis. When projected across the country, this is worth £200m to the economy.
On top of that, young people are giving £100m in monetary donations to charity each year.
The report also highlighted the important role religious organisations are playing in providing young people with volunteering opportunities, with 40% volunteering through religious organisations, including 10% of self declared atheists. Personal faith and belief was shown to be a significant motivating factor to volunteering, something HRH the Prince of Wales described as ‘striking’ in his foreword to the report.
