Christian Unions are taking off in and around Ipswichuccflogo

With the new University Campus Suffolk (UCS) on the Ipswich Waterfront, and also the existing Suffolk College and Otley College, there are many students who now live and study in and around Ipswich. All three of these institutions now have Christian Unions in place to support Christian students.

SheriDuckerLocal UCCF:theChristianUnions worker, Sheri Ducker says “CUs cater for Christian students who meet together to help each other live and speak for Jesus. My job is to encourage University and College CUs in Suffolk and Essex, support them, provide training and also to link them to nationwide resources.  I also liaise with local churches and supporters, providing prayer information and sharing about the work.”

University Campus Suffolk (UCS), the Ipswich University on the Waterfront, has a new CU which meets each week for Bible study and prayer. They recently held their first ever guest event, which was a real step forward for the CU to becoming an active society and one keen to spread the good news.

Suffolk College has had a CU for a number of years, which currently meets each week on a Wednesday lunch time for prayer and Bible study. They recently got out into the college and spent a lunchtime carrying out a survey asking people for their views on Freedom. They also gave out lollies and copies of "Free", a student edition of Mark's gospel. It was exciting to see an account of Jesus' life go out to so many students who would normally never think to read a Bible!

Otley College CU was set up by two students at the beginning of the academic year. This term they put on a quiz, which allowed class mates of CU members to ask anything they wanted to about the Christian faith, and some great conversations were had. The CU meets most weeks, studying the Bible, and often getting into conversations with people who hang out in the same class room during the lunch hour.

Sheri says “I have really appreciated the support from local Christians and churches in this small but, hopefully, significant work – I really value your prayers.  I'm always very happy to come along to a church and speak about the work.
